BMW: The Silence of the Quandts

"The Quandt family is the silent might, behind one of the world's largest and most profitable automakers, BMW. Yet the family has a dark past.

Its businesses profited from forced labour during the Third Reich, and the patriarchs, who were intimately involved with the Nazi regime, managed to escape prosecution and keep those profits when the war ended, profits with which they could buy and rescue BMW. This documentary shows the victims, and asks the question, "Why are the Quandts silent?

Divided Nation: Views from both sides of Kiev's barricades

Kiev, Ukraine's Independence Square, also known as Euromaidan, is still occupied by people demanding closer integration with Europe and the resignation of President Viktor Yanukovich and his government.

Molotov cocktails, rubber bullets, and men in masks can be seen on either side of the tent camps and barricades that divide the city's central square from the outside world. But who are the 'peaceful' demonstrators occupying Maidan?

RT's crew managed to visit both sides of the barricades and to hear from residents of the Ukrainian capital.

Lethal Medicine: French Souvenir

Lethal Medicine: A French Souvenir door  presstvdocumentaries

In the 1980s, the French sold Iran tainted blood products that resulted in 200 Hemophiliac patients contracting HIV. It took many of these patients years before they first realized about their disease.

This gravely aggravated the situation and caused further spread of the virus. Spouses got infected, children were born with AIDS, and parents were left distraught and distressed. Lack of awareness and stigmatization of AIDS’ earlier years drove these families into isolation. It is estimated that the lives of nearly 3000 people were affected by the contaminated Factor eight products which were prepared in France.

It is documented that Laurent Fabius, the man who presides over the France Foreign Ministry since 2012, is the main culprit in the case of exporting tainted blood products to Iran as well as nine other countries. Many of the first victims including the first ever child who contracted HIV in Iran are now passed away. But the families are still grieving and fighting for justice. The French pharmaceutical giant of Sanofi Aventis has so far failed to provide Iranian victims with compensation.

New anti-protest law in Spain

Tens of thousands of Spaniards have staged another demonstration in the capital, Madrid, to voice their outrage at the government’s austerity measures and new anti-protest law.

Various organizations, social groups and unions took to the streets in Madrid to oppose a new bill, known as Citizen Security, which has been drafted by Spain’s ruling People’s Party to restrict public protests. The draft law will introduce heavy fines for those who participate in unauthorized protests across the country if it comes into force.

Izquierda Plural, one of Spain’s main opposition parties, has described the bill as a "kick in the teeth to democracy." However, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy claims the proposed law is to protect citizens and not to silence protesters. People in Spain are also angry at more budget cuts, arguing that austerity measures without growth have led to steady job losses in recent years.

Battered by the global financial downturn, the Spanish economy collapsed into recession in the second half of 2008, taking millions of jobs with it.
