Ethos, a powerful new documentary hosted by Woody Harrelson, is an  investigation into the flaws in our systems, and the mechanisms that  work against democracy, our environment and the the common good.

With  a stunning depth of research and breadth of analysis, this film delves  deep into the inter-connected worlds of Politics, Multi-National  Corporations and the Media. Most of us have wondered at some point how  we have arrived at a situation where democracy is touted as having  created an equal society when all we see is injustice and corruption.

Politicians  openly deceive the public with the support of major corporations and  the mainstream media. Wars are waged, the environment is destroyed and  inequality is on the rise. But what is the source of these institutional  mechanisms which -- when we scratch the surface -- are so clearly  anti-democratic, so contradictory to the values we hold in common and  yet so firmly embedded that they seem beyond discussion?

Ethos  opens a Pandora's box that has it's roots in the cross-roads where  capitalism-meets-democracy, implicates every power-elite puts profit  before people and finally offers a solution whereby you -- the viewer --  can regain control using the one thing they do care about -- your cash.

Shooting Muhammad

For 21-year-old Muhammad, being a Palestinian in an Israeli university  means checkpoint after checkpoint  and never far away, the endless wall. It means no friends, no drinks after lessons and the constant threat of  violence.

That seems tough enough but the very act of going to  university on an Israeli settlement divides him against himself. Muhammads challenging life spills out in this fast and vibrant  narrative. Can he overcome the odds to find fame, fortune or will it  just end in another wall? See the full documentary

Words of My Perfect Teacher

From the World Cup in Germany to the remote Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan, three students are on a quest they hope will lead to wisdom.

The catch is…the teacher. Soccer obsessed, charismatic filmmaker, and citizen of the world, Khyentse Norbu may be one of the most eminent Tibetan Buddhist teachers, but it’s a job description he slyly seems to reject at every turn. 103 min. (bt)

Our System Our Structure Our Illusion

OUR SYSTEM OUR STRUCTURE OUR ILLUSION (2010) from Dominoes Falling  Productions, is a feature length documentary using a collaboration of  various material.

The film presents an alternative outlook of  contemporary society, in particular UK &  US, however parallels can  be made to nearly every society that exists today. Are we  economic/corporate slaves to a monetary system? The film challenges  ‘established’ beliefs, values and structures imposed on many, as well as  people’s attachment to the roles they play in this.

Question everything, including this.

The End of Poverty

The aphorism "The poor are always with us" dates back to the New Testament, but while the phrase is still sadly apt in the 21st century, few seem to be able to explain why poverty is so widespread.

Activist filmmaker Philippe Diaz examines the history and impact of economic inequality in the third world in the documentary The End of Poverty?, and makes the compelling argument that it's not an accident or simple bad luck that has created a growing underclass around the world.

Diaz traces the growth of global poverty back to colonization in the 15th century, and features interviews with a number of economists, sociologists, and historians who explain how poverty is the clear consequence of free-market economic policies that allow powerful nations to exploit poorer countries for their assets and keep money in the hands of the wealthy rather than distributing it more equitably to the people who have helped them gain their fortunes.

Diaz also explores how wealthy nations (especially the United States) seize a disproportionate share of the world's natural resources, and how this imbalance is having a dire impact on the environment as well as the economy.

To Shoot An Elephant

Gaza Strip has been under siege since June 2007, when Israel declared it an "enemy entity". A group of international activists organized a  siege-breaking movement, the Free Gaza movement.

Thanks to their  efforts, and despite the Israeli ban on foreign correspondents and  humanitarian aid workers to cover and witness operation "Cast Lead" on  the ground, a group of international volunteers: self organised members  of the International Solidarity Movement were present in Gaza when the  bombing started on December, 27th 2009.

Together with two international  correspondents from Al Jazeera International (Ayman Mohyeldin and  Sherine Tadros), they were the only foreigners who managed to write,  film and report for several radio stations what was happening inside the  besieged Palestinian strip. Read more.
